The purpose of this paper is to provide scientists and students from developing countries an introductory reading in the field of combinatorial chemistry and related methodologies, through the description of the development of the most important techniques and its applications. While combinatorial chemistry requires in some cases specific techniques and equipment, the authors' intention is to show that it is a subject within reach of laboratories with standard levels of experience and equipment.
